Women's Division of the Reykjavík Division

The Women's Section of the Reykjavík Department of the Icelandic Red Cross was founded in 1966 and has been involved in various projects, including book services.

Today, the department runs vending machines and shops at the National Hospital in Fossvogur and on Hringbraut. Volunteers take care of the sales for three hours a day. In addition, there is an active knitting group that meets weekly during the winter.

Volunteers in the shops work in three-hour shifts, 10:00 - 13:00 or 13:00 - 16:00. Some are on fixed shifts, others are not. It is rewarding work, as the customers are hospital employees, patients and relatives.

The knitting group meets on Thursdays at 13:00 - 15:00 during the winter at the Red Cross premises. The crafts are sold in the shops and at the department's Christmas markets.
