People seeking international protection

The Icelandic Red Cross provides people seeking international protection with social support.

The aim of the program is to provide a platform to meet, connect and learn about Icelandic society.

For more information contact: asylum@redcross.is or visit our Facebook group.

Here is a link to a website managed by The Icelandic Red Cross which aims to share accurate and up-to-date information about the services and rights that are available to asylum seekers, their accessibility and limitations.

Social support

The Red Cross offers Open Interview Hours for all asylum seekers weekly. The purpose is to create a forum for discussions on issues that are close to applicants' hearts, whether they concern social issues, e.g. living conditions and well-being, procedures or relationships with a family in the country of origin. During interview hours, interpreting services are offered by telephone so that everyone can express themselves freely. The service is provided on the basis of applicants and has been offered as close as possible to applicants accommodation. Four staff members provide social assistance, support and protection to applicants for international protection.

  • Those who are seeking international protection can come for Interview hours every Monday to Thursday from 09:00 -11:00.

Social Activities for Asylum seekers

There are various events and numerous groups that meet every week, including a women's group and a youth group, and there's also an open house. In addition, both Icelandic and English are taught.
