Basic course Safety and rescue: Others is intended for those who intend to work at swimming and bathing facilities that the public has access to.

The length of the course as a whole is 12-14 hours and is divided into first aid, rescue and performance skill assessment.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with knowledge, skills and competence in their role, duties and responsibilities as a lifeguard. It will also provide participants with knowledge, skills and abilities that they will then be able to use to:
Prevent, identify and respond to emergencies in and around water.
Provide professional assistance in emergency situations of accidents or acute illness until emergency personnel arrive at the scene and take over the situation.

A performance skill assessment according to Annex III of the regulation hygiene in swimming and bathing facilities (hollustuhætti á sund - og baðstöðum) takes place during the course, intended for those participants who have to pass an performance skill assessment according to regulations.

Participants who pass the basic course Safety and rescue: others + performance skill assessment will be issued the following certificate: Öryggi og björgun: Aðrir + hæfnispróf and it is valid for one year from the date of issue.

To maintain privileges, the lifeguard must attend refresher courses and pass a performance skill assessment.

Please note that participation is a prerequisite for the course.

The participation fee is not refunded if the course is shorter than three days and a medical certificate is not available. After the course has started, the participation fee is not refunded.

People are encouraged to bring a lunch.
